Stiles Farm Internship Alumni

Allen Hall

Howdy! I’m Allen Hall, and I completed my internship at Stiles Farm from February to May of 2017, and stayed on to assist thru the annual Stiles Field Day in June of 2017. I graduated Cum Laude from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX in May of 2017 with a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Services and Development with an emphasis in Agri- Industries and Agencies.

My internship period at Stiles Farm enabled me to further my knowledge in the Agricultural Industry on a scale that would benefit me further down the road in my career. Being an intern at Stiles is a great opportunity for senior-level collegiate students to further their knowledge in Agriculture, meet all kinds of contacts from the different Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Research departments and many other companies that have a connection with the farm, and learn skills that cannot be taught in textbook and classroom settings. I was fortunate to have a background in Agriculture coming into the internship, but many students that are majoring in Agriculture present day do not have that opportunity, and this internship greatly helps them in that quest to learn important skills on the farm. Whether it be assisting in the day to day field operations, feeding the cattle, or fixing fence-every experience is quite different and there is not one day that is the same on the farm!

If you have the chance or wish to pursue an internship with Stiles Farm, I would jump on the opportunity. The contacts I made while interning there helped me get my current full time job with Texas A&M AgriLife Research. Ryan and his farm staff are super helpful and understanding to help teach students the “tricks of the trade” on the farm and always take some time to have a teaching moment along the way! I am grateful to been having the chance to intern at Stiles Farm and always look forward to returning to conduct our research!

Partnership Opportunities

Stiles Farm can run multiple projects at once thanks to the demonstration and research plot model. If you or your company would like to partner with Stiles Farm, we are looking for partnerships in long term conservation tillage and cover crop research, precision agriculture technologies, innovations in beef cattle production, the economics of small acreage horticulture production in the blacklands, and use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) in agriculture production. For partnership ideas, contact Ryan Collett at (512) 898-2214 or rmcollett@ag.tamu.edu.
