We have been attempting to plant wheat every day this week before the rain that is expected on Friday. The first couple of days we spent trying to figure out the correct depth in which to plant the seed. As soon as we would get going though the ground would be just a little too wet for planting. By the end of the week though the ground had dried up enough that we managed to get most of the field planted with winter wheat.

This week on the farm we had some cattle get out into the wrong pasture. I spent most of the day on Wednesday trying to drive them back where they were supposed to be. By the end of the day, I managed to get the herd moved back into the correct pasture. The rest of the week was spent doing various chores such as feeding hay, shredding grass in the pastures, and fixing fence.

This week at the farm I attempted to fix a gate that had been broken. I tried welding it together, but that didn’t work because it burned right through the thin material. It was fun getting to do some welding again, but ultimately it didn’t do the job so the gate will just get scrapped. Also, this week I accidentally busted a PVC pipe, so I just capped it off and it should no longer be a problem. Intern Micah Fischer

Help us welcome ReAnne Hurd to the farm she will graduate from Tarleton State University in December 2022. ReAnne joined us back in September and has been very busy learning the ropes here at Stiles Farm.
I got to attend a seed meeting with Ryan Collett. I got to meet local farmers in Williamson county and learned different products that Dekalb makes and sells !
I got to go to the nursery and pick out trees for the farm. I learned to dig holes to plant the trees, mulch for future generations at the farm to enjoy.
