Hey y’all!
This is my last week at the Stiles Farm for the summer. I attended the Beef Cow 706 class at Texas A&M University in College Station on Tuesday and Wednesday. The class was super informational about the beef cow industry and took you through all the steps of processing a beef cow from start to finish. We were put into small groups and learned how to grade live cattle and meat. During the class we also learned how to butcher the back and front quarters of the cow. The rest of the week back at Stiles Farm we worked on an electrical fence in the south pasture so we could later rotate the cows. The Stiles Farm Foundation has given me the best learning experience this summer and I now will be pursuing an agriculture career in my future. McKenzie Rodriguez Week 11 Last Blog

Howdy!
This week at the farm I checked both herds of cows every morning. We did some more fencing repairs on the electrical and barb wire fences. The farm also got the four-wheeler back from the shop so we began to see how we could fix the engine to get it running again. To finish the week, we got the parts and measurements needed to build a gate in the south herd pasture.

This week at the Stiles Farm, I helped to finish up loading and moving the round bales to multiple locations around the farm. This was good preparation for the winter since the cows will need lots of hay to keep them warm during the colder months. We also continued working on the old Chevy truck. The first task we began on was removing the fuel pump from the engine. It was fun getting to learn more about the truck and what the fuel pump does. Lastly, we ended the week by relocating the chickens to a new chicken coop.

At the Stiles Farm this week we have been doing up keep such as mowing the front area and continuing to spray for mesquite trees. On Wednesday and Thursday we helped to prepare for the Hemp Field Day. The field day was a great success with a big turnout of people interested in pursuing the field of working with hemp. Throughout the field day I learned a significant amount about the study of hemp and the numerous products that can be produced from the plant.

Howdy,
This week at the Stiles Farm I got to work on repairs for the tractors. It was super interesting to learn more about how the engine works and the different functions every part performs to make the tractor run efficiently. Throughout the week I additionally touched up and painted the smaller barns at the front of the farm and repaired some fencing damage in the cow pastures. With all the recent rain the cows have been more active.

Hey there!
This week we have been loading and moving the big round bales on the farm. I got to learn how to use the hay trailer and how to pull it using one of the farm trucks. It has been a great experience and I had a blast getting to help with it all. The cows on the farm will now have plenty of hay to eat for the rest of the year.
